Butterfly Hugs

Make a butterfly… bring Hope to those who are struggling!

Last year I stumbled onto this wonderful service opportunity called Butterfly Hugs. Butterfly Hugs is a project sponsored by WPER – Virginia’s Home for Encouragement. WPER collects butterflies made out of supplies you have on hand–construction paper, coffee filters, fabric, etc.  After your butterfly is received, it is paired with an encouraging note and given to a friend or neighbor who is in need of Hope and Encouragement.

Last year we made some butterflies. Then Covid-19 hit, and we never delivered them. This week we decided to make new butterflies and drop them off at WPER.

If you live in the Fredericksburg area, you can hand deliver your butterflies to the address below. They even have a butterfly collector hanging outside their building. If there’s rain or snow in the forecast, place your butterflies in a Ziploc bag to keep them safe. Butterflies can also be mailed to the address below.

Send a butterfly to:

WPER
Butterfly Hugs®
4522 Plank Rd.
Fredericksburg, VA 22407

This is such a perfect activity for a rainy day or whenever you are in a creative mood. All ages can easily be involved in this service project.

There is no deadline! They are especially in need of butterflies 6″ x 8″ that can fit inside a greeting card.

Do you someone in need who could use some hope and encouragement. If so, you can request a butterfly to be sent to that person. Just click on the tab on the left side of WPER’s Butterfly Hugs page.

They also have links to butterfly coloring pages if you need a pattern.

WPER’s goal is to place boxes of Butterfly Hugs® in cancer centers, nursing homes, counseling centers and hospitals in VA.  Do you work in one? If so, please tell them where to send the HUGS. Email butterflyhugs@wper.org to request a box of HOPE!

How nice to bring a smile one butterfly at a time.
