Opened in 2003, the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center serves as a partner facility to the National Air and Space Museum. It is the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s annex at Washington Dulles International Airport in the Chantilly area of Fairfax County. Hundreds of aircraft and spacecraft are on display in two massive hangars, including a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, the Boeing B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay, and the Space Shuttle Discovery.

The aircraft and spacecraft hanging overhead would be impressive enough, but the Udvar-Hazy Center also offers thousands of additional artifacts to view and many interactive, family friendly exhibits and activities.
Location: 14390 Air and Space Museum Parkway, Chantilly, VA 20151 (60 miles from Fredericksburg)
Hours: Regular hours are 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Cost: The museum is free, but parking is $15. Pay for parking by credit card at the pay stations inside the Museum or by cash or credit card at the exit gates. Parking is free for vehicles that arrive after 4 p.m.

I was so excited to hear that select Smithsonian museums are starting to open up. My family really enjoyed visiting this museum a couple of years ago. The Udvar-Hazy Center is just plain cool.
