If you need a quick break from shopping or dining in Central Park, there are two easy locations to feed ducks and geese. My kids love feeding them. Make sure to pack some extra food so you always have it handy for an impromptu feeding.
You can buy duck food at Tractor Supply We also learned that ducks and geese can be fed cut seedless grapes, cooked rice, birdseed, peas, corn, oats and chopped lettuce. Side note: We brought lettuce during our last visit, and the ducks and geese would not touch it.
The first location is the little lake across the street from Regal Movie Theatre. You can access this location from three different spots:
- The parking lot across the street from Regal: 3301 Plank Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22401
- The parking lot by Dollar Tree: 3061 Plank Rd., Fredericksburg, VA 22401
- The parking lot behind Shane’s Rib Shack: 1150 Carl D. Silver Pkwy., Fredericksburg, VA 22401
The Regal parking lot site has a couple of benches where you can relax and watch the ducks/geese. The Shane’s Rib Shack location has a small pier. When we were last there, it had a “No Trespassing” sign on it, so we didn’t venture out on it.
The second location is a smaller pond adjacent to Outback Steakhouse: 2941 Plank Rd., Fredericksburg, VA 22401. The benches have been removed from this location.
We’ve been coming to these spots for years.
After feeding the geese and ducks, you can grab a cookie at Crumbl Cookies. You’re not too far; it’s coming to 1460 Central Park Blvd., Suite 106 (former Bubbles Salon). They’ll be opening their doors May 20, 2021.
