Machicomoco State Park

Virginia’s 40th State Park Machicomoco is Algonquian for “special meeting place.” The name was chosen to reflect the park’s purpose of education on the native tribes of Virginia. Motts Run Reservoir

This 80-acre park was opened in 1974, three years after the completion of the reservoir, and since that time it has seen many changes. In 2000, a water treatment facility was completed near the dam to serve the City of Fredericksburg and parts of Spotsylvania County. Lake Mooney
